Not always inherited from both parents: LGMD can be inherited in an autosomal dominant or recessive manner. In some cases, only one parent needs to carry the mutated gene for a child to be affected. The gene can also be ‘de novo’ or new, occurring for the first time in a family and not coming from either parent.
